Ticket #515 (new enhancement)
Introducing basic support for microformats

Description (last modified by DarTar) (diff)
Formatting content in a semantically meaningful way for clients supporting microformats would be a terrific addition to Wikka in my opinion.
What are microformats
From the Microformats wiki:
Microformats are a way of adding simple markup to human-readable data items such as events, contact details or locations, on web pages, so that the information in them can be extracted by software and indexed, searched for, saved, cross-referenced or combined. More technically, they are items of semantic markup, using just standard (X)HTML with a set of common class-names. They are open and available, freely, for anyone to use.
Isn't this like reinventing the wheel?
Quoting from a comment on this post:
RDF and microformats are not competitors. RDF is a data model that is meant to power Semantic Web. Microformats is a way to get there faster and with realistic assessment of existing environment, aka the lower-case semantic web.

What to implement
hCalendar, hCard, geo, tag could be good examples of formats to start with. Support could be provided either via dedicated formatters or via actions.
Among potential uses: automatic vCard generation for Wikka users, downloadable events, geo coordinate links etc.
